[Financial News] A woman in her 20s went to the emergency room after developing acute allergic symptoms following the use of a 'Mallangi' toy.
According to a Channel A report on the 7th, a college student identified as Seo recently touched and played with a Mallangi toy before developing an acute rash within 20 minutes and heading to the emergency room.
Mallangi is a toy popular with both children and adults because of its soft texture and elasticity.
Seo explained what happened at the time, saying, "At first, my hands and feet were extremely itchy. I went to the bathroom thinking, 'Why is this happening?' and then my entire face started turning red and blotchy."
The rash started on her face and spread across her body, eventually forcing her to seek emergency treatment. Doctors diagnosed her with an acute allergic reaction.
Another woman in her 20s developed an eye infection after rubbing her eyes with hands that had touched and played with a Mallangi toy. She said, "One eye was really red, and the discharge was covering almost the entire eye."
Experts warned that plasticizers, which are used to soften plastic, can irritate sensitive skin. They also noted that preservatives and fragrances are often included, making irritant contact dermatitis a common reaction. For that reason, people should never touch their face or eyes with hands that have handled the toy.
The Korea Consumer Agency said it has launched a full safety investigation as complaints related to tactile toys continue to rise.
