[Financial News] Park Hang-seo, vice president of the Korea Football Association (KFA) and team director, is reported to have resigned in Mexico after taking responsibility for South Korea's exit from the group stage of the 2026 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup in North and Central America.
According to News 1 on the 6th, a KFA official said, "Vice President Park Hang-seo resigned locally after South Korea's elimination from the World Cup group stage was confirmed."
The official said Park quietly held a closing ceremony with KFA Secretary General Kim Seung-hee and the players after South Korea's bid to reach the round of 32 fell through.
After completing his official schedule as team director, Park resigned from his vice presidency and returned home on the 30th with the main squad, including former coach Hong Myung-bo.
Park had previously bowed his head and apologized, saying, "As team director, I offer the federation's deep apology for failing to meet the public's expectations at the World Cup in North and Central America."
He also urged the association to "move forward with renewed preparations for the future through painful self-reflection and introspection, so that Korean football can make a fresh start after this disappointing World Cup."
Meanwhile, Park Hang-seo was appointed as the official manager of Thailand's second-division club Kanchanaburi FC in May, and he has agreed to take charge of the team starting in July, after the World Cup.
