[Financial News] The Korea Football Association (KFA) issued its first official apology to football fans after being eliminated from the group stage of the 2026 FIFA North and Central America World Cup.
On the 3rd, the KFA posted a message on social media titled "A Message to Football Fans."
The KFA bowed its head and said, "To all football fans who have always cared for and loved Korean football, we sincerely apologize for disappointing you with results that fell short of expectations at this year's North and Central America World Cup."
It added, "We will take this failure as a lesson, reflect deeply, and prepare again for the future of Korean football," and said, "We will humbly listen to all criticism and condemnation and work hard to build better Korean football."
It also stated, "We also inform you that the recent speculative reports that turned various unverified tips into news are completely false." This was interpreted as a response to reports dealing with allegations of internal conflict within the national team that surfaced during the World Cup.
The KFA said, "Once again, we bow our heads and apologize to the fans who sincerely care about Korean football for causing concern, and we promise to continue striving to protect the noble values and purity of football."
Regarding the selection of the next national team coach, the KFA said, "The Power Enhancement Committee met on the 3rd and agreed to review multiple directions related to the appointment of a coach," adding, "We plan to continue discussions in follow-up meetings, with top priority given to securing stability in national team operations so that the national team can prepare for the AFC Asian Cup without disruption and so that there will be no setbacks to the A-match schedule in the second half of the year."
On the presidential election, it explained, "Under the current association bylaws, an election must be held within 60 days if the presidency becomes vacant," and added, "The election system must be based on compliance with the association bylaws, but it must also not conflict with the bylaws of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the KFA's parent organization, or those of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC)." It added, "We are currently conducting multi-faceted and in-depth deliberations."
Netizens who saw the post reacted by saying, "They have disappointed fans for far too long," "Please be transparent," "It's time to tear it down from the ground up," "How are we supposed to trust something when the trust is already broken?" and "They really posted the apology so quickly."
