[Financial News] Donald Trump, the 80-year-old U.S. president, said he would give a "very long speech" outdoors on July 4, when the country marks the 250th anniversary of Independence Day. Temperatures outside were expected to exceed 40 degrees Celsius.
According to the U.S. political outlet The Hill, Trump made the remarks on the 1st while attending the opening ceremony of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in North Dakota. He said, "The temperature on July 4 will rise to 107 degrees Fahrenheit, or 41.7 degrees Celsius, and I’m going there to give a very long speech to show that I can do anything."
Several commemorative events will be held in Washington, D.C., on July 4 to mark the 250th anniversary of Independence Day. Trump is scheduled to speak at around 9:45 p.m. at the National Mall, the grassy area between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. According to the National Weather Service, the day’s high in Washington, D.C., is expected to reach 41.7 degrees Celsius, with humidity climbing to 54 percent, making for extremely hot conditions. By around 9 p.m., just before the speech, temperatures are expected to fall to about 31.1 degrees Celsius.
Trump’s remarks, made shortly after his 80th birthday last month, are seen as an effort to highlight his health and stamina. He has often delivered speeches lasting more than an hour.
The commemorative program at the National Mall begins at 7 p.m. It will feature a ROK Air Force flyover, an air show, and large-scale military band and honor guard performances, followed by Trump’s speech. It is unclear how long Trump will speak, but fireworks are scheduled between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Organizers said they plan to launch 850,000 fireworks over about 40 minutes in an attempt to set a Guinness World Records mark.
