President Lee: Lee Byung-chul's foresight and Lee Jae-yong's resolve will lead the leap forward of advanced industries

[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung on the 2nd praised the large-scale investment plans announced by Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, Celltrion and others to foster advanced industries in the Chungcheong region as "a bold declaration of new possibilities for the Republic of Korea," and promised full government support. The Chungcheong investments announced that day total 392 trillion won, including 156 trillion won for semiconductors, 150 trillion won for AI Data Centers (AIDC), 67 trillion won for displays, 17 trillion won for rechargeable batteries and components, and 2 trillion won for bio industries.
At the "National Report Meeting on the Vision for Advanced Industry Development in the Chungcheong Region" held in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, President Lee said, "The investment plans announced today do not simply mean that companies' production facilities will expand into the Chungcheong region." He added, "They are a promise of trust to completely change the growth paradigm and move toward a better future."
In particular, President Lee referred to remarks by Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and invoked the so-called Tokyo Declaration, when Samsung founder Lee Byung-chul announced the company's entry into the semiconductor industry in Tokyo in 1983. "Just as the foresight shown that day made the Republic of Korea a semiconductor powerhouse, I am confident that Chairman Lee Jae-yong's decision today will lead the new leap forward of Korea's advanced industries," he said.
President Lee said, "With large-scale investment and the resulting production of HBM (High Bandwidth Memory), Chungcheong's standing as a hub for advanced industries will be further strengthened." He added, "Chungcheong already has world-class manufacturing sites and outstanding talent from research institutions."
He went on to say, "If companies' strategic investments are combined with the strong will of the central government and local governments, Chungcheong will surely rise beyond the center of Korea's advanced industries and become a global hub of innovation leading the era of artificial intelligence."
He also stressed full support for businesses. "Our government will actively support companies by mobilizing all available means so that their decisions can shine," he said. "Through Chungcheong, we will make real the major shift toward region-led growth, in which each of the five major and three special regions builds its own industrial ecosystem and develops through competition."
