[Financial News] Apple is expected to unveil its first touchscreen MacBook. The product is likely to be introduced sometime between late 2026 and early 2027. It is expected to feature an M5 Pro or M5 Max chip.
According to the IT industry and foreign media outlets including Bloomberg on the 30th, the new touchscreen MacBook is expected to be equipped with the M5 Pro or M5 Max chip released earlier this year. The new MacBook is being developed in 14-inch and 16-inch models, with internal code names reportedly K114 and K116, respectively. It is expected to become Apple's first touchscreen MacBook. Touchscreen laptops are also a form factor already adopted in Samsung's latest premium notebooks.
The new touchscreen MacBook is said to bring more than just touch functionality to the display. According to foreign media reports, the device will feature the iPhone's Dynamic Island interface, along with an Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) display and a new design.
From the next-generation touchscreen MacBook onward, the M7 chip is expected to be used. Apple is expected to first introduce the M7 chip in early 2027, followed by the M7 Pro and M7 Max chips. The M7 Ultra chip is likely to launch in 2028.
Bloomberg previously predicted that Apple would skip development of the high-performance M6 Pro and M6 Max chips and move directly to the M7 generation. This is seen as part of the company's push to strengthen next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) features. The M7 chip currently under development at Apple is reportedly focused on improving on-device AI processing and performance for graphics processing unit (GPU)-intensive tasks.
