[Financial News] Tensions in the Middle East are rising again as Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain in response to a series of U.S. airstrikes.
According to foreign media reports on the 28th local time, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it had struck and destroyed eight major U.S. military facilities, including Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the United States Fifth Fleet base at Salman Port in Bahrain, in retaliation for the U.S. airstrikes.
It also warned that if the United States continues to violate the ceasefire memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two countries, it will suspend all diplomatic procedures.
The IRGC Navy Command said, "U.S. military bases in the Middle East will experience hell in the coming days," suggesting the possibility of further attacks.
The United States government also acknowledged that Iran had indeed launched missiles and drones. A U.S. official told foreign media, "Iran fired multiple missiles and drones toward Bahrain and Kuwait," but added, "So far, no U.S. casualties or damage to major facilities have been reported."
The Kuwaiti military said on X that it had activated its air defenses and intercepted hostile aerial targets. The Bahraini government also issued air raid sirens and instructed residents to evacuate immediately.
The two countries have continued armed clashes over the Strait of Hormuz even after signing a ceasefire memorandum of understanding (MOU) last month. With attacks on civilian ships, U.S. retaliatory airstrikes, and Iran's counterattacks continuing, tensions show little sign of easing.
After a civilian vessel sailing through the Strait of Hormuz was attacked on the 25th, the United States struck Iranian military facilities. It carried out additional airstrikes on the 27th after another tanker was hit. In response, Iran launched retaliatory attacks targeting U.S. facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain, further intensifying the confrontation between the two sides.
