[Financial News] After President Lee said, "I do not know whether we will have to pursue a supplementary budget, but GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) will increasingly be needed on a large scale," the People Power Party criticized the Lee administration for trying to turn artificial intelligence (AI) into yet another justification for a supplementary budget.
In a commentary on the 27th, Park Sung-hoon, chief spokesperson for the People Power Party, said, "By hinting at a second supplementary budget, President Lee has started stoking a cash handout supplementary budget under the banner of AI."
Park said, "If a temporary tax surplus is expected, it is only common sense to use it to reduce national debt and restore fiscal soundness." He added, "President Lee is fixated only on the idea of pouring money into the budget for political gain." He then criticized, "Is the national budget President Lee's personal piggy bank?"
He also said, "This is a shallow attempt to escape a political crisis by scattering taxpayers' money after approval ratings plunged," and called it "a filthy trick to buy public support with money handouts."
Park went on to argue that "AI competitiveness is built not through one-off supplementary budgets, but through long-term investment and regulatory innovation."
