Jorge Rodríguez, President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, said in a televised address on the 26th local time that the death toll from the series of earthquakes had risen to 920. Regarding infrastructure damage, Rodríguez said that "1,423 buildings nationwide have been identified as damaged." He also said that more than 2 million food rations had been distributed to directly support citizens and families affected by the earthquake.
The United Nations (UN) says more than 50,000 people are missing after the earthquake. In an interview with Agence France-Presse (AFP) on the same day, Tom Fletcher, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, said, "Because more than 50,000 people are missing, searching through the rubble will be a huge task."
