[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung said on the 26th that more Korean ships had escaped from the Strait of Hormuz, adding, "Now only five ships remain."
In a post on X, Lee said that "three of them, excluding two ships — including the Namuho, which is under repair, and one vessel that has said it will remain because of cargo issues — are expected to get out by the weekend."
Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said that eight ships operated by Korean shipping companies and waiting inside the Strait of Hormuz had passed through the waterway and were now sailing normally. It said 37 Korean crew members were aboard those vessels. As a result, the number of Korean ships remaining inside the strait fell to five.
Among the remaining vessels is HMM Namuho, which is under repair at Port of Dubai after being hit. The other ships are also preparing to pass through one by one, depending on consultations with the countries involved and their own sailing plans.
Lee said, "The reason detained merchant ships and their crews were able to escape more quickly and safely than those of any other country was largely due to the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Security Office, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and the National Intelligence Service, who worked through the night to coordinate and cooperate." He added, "I commend the public officials at the relevant ministries for their hard work, and I ask for your encouragement as well."
