[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung is expected to hold a closed-door meeting with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong at the Blue House on the 25th. The president met with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won on the 19th, signaling broader communication with the heads of major conglomerates.
According to political and business sources, Lee is expected to meet Lee privately at the Blue House later in the day.
The Blue House and Samsung Electronics have said they cannot confirm the meeting, but it is widely believed that the two are likely to meet as part of a closed-door schedule.
If the meeting takes place, the two are expected to exchange views on fostering the artificial intelligence industry and promoting balanced regional development.
Based on the talks, observers expect a blueprint to be presented at the public-private joint meeting on the Great Spatial Transformation of the National Territory (Balanced Regional Development State), scheduled for the 29th, including large-scale investment plans for regional areas.
At a press conference marking his first anniversary in office on the 8th, Lee said, "I will soon unveil to the public a large-scale investment project that will bring a major shift in our growth strategy."
In the business community, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are reportedly reviewing plans to expand investment in the Honam Region and the Chungcheong region.
Kim Yong-beom, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Office, also attended a forum hosted by the Kwanhun Club at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 24th. Addressing reports from political and business circles that Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are considering large-scale semiconductor investments in the Honam Region, including Gwangju and Jeollanam-do, as well as in the Chungcheong region, he said, "We are approaching the final stage of discussions." He added, "Once everything is finalized, we plan to arrange a session where companies and ministries can gather together and explain it to the public at once."
Referring to Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, Kim explained, "It is true that serious discussions are under way among the two companies, the ministries, and the government over where to locate the new semiconductor investment."
