[Financial News] Jang Won-young, a member of the group Ive, appeared at the departure hall with a noticeably different look after recent controversy over alleged airport security screening privileges.
Ive departed for Japan through the international terminal at Gimpo International Airport on the 23rd for the schedule of its second world tour. At the scene, Jang Won-young's outfit and demeanor drew the most attention.
Unlike the other members, who appeared without makeup and wearing masks and hats, Jang Won-young did not wear the hat, sunglasses, or mask she usually favors. Fully made up and wearing luxury items, she smiled at the cameras and fans and greeted them calmly.
She also appeared to act much more carefully during the security screening process. When handing her passport to a security officer, Jang Won-young used both hands and went through identity verification with a more polite attitude. Her change is being interpreted as a strong awareness of the airport privilege and behavior controversy that surfaced in late May.
Previously, on the 30th of last month, Jang Won-young came under fire after footage showed her slightly lifting her hat and briefly lowering only her mask while going through identity checks at Gimpo Airport before departing for Shanghai, China.
Because ordinary travelers are required to remove both hats and masks during security screening, questions were raised over whether she had received special treatment as a celebrity.
The controversy intensified after images also spread showing her receiving her passport from a staff member with one hand and standing with her arms crossed.
As the backlash grew, Korea Airports Corporation (KAC) explained on the 16th that "the procedure was carried out normally in accordance with the rules, and there was no special treatment for celebrities."
However, after accepting complaints from the public, the corporation strengthened its guidance by explicitly adding a notice to departure instructions at Gimpo International Airport that says, 'Please briefly remove your mask, hat, and sunglasses to verify your identity.'
