[Financial News] A North Korean soldier reportedly crossed the Military Demarcation Line in the Central Front late at night, and South Korean troops secured the individual.
The Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff (ROK JCS) said on the 24th that it had secured one Korean People's Army soldier in the Central Front during the night of the 23rd.
A ROK JCS official explained, "Relevant agencies are investigating the details regarding the North Korean soldier whose custody our military secured."
This is the second time under the Lee Jae Myung administration that a Korean People's Army soldier has been secured in the Central Front. On October 19 last year, South Korean troops also secured one North Korean soldier who crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) in the Central Front and expressed a desire to defect. The soldier was found in the southern area of the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), south of the MDL. The area had no barrier.
There was also a defection by a Korean People's Army soldier on August 20, 2024, during the Yoon Suk Yeol government. At that time, a sergeant crossed the Military Demarcation Line in the Goseong County, Gangwon Province area and defected.
Korean People's Army soldiers are carrying out various tasks along the Military Demarcation Line area, including reinforcing tactical roads and installing unidentified structures. Provided by the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff.
