[Financial News] Rail operations across Germany were suspended on the 23rd (local time) because of a communications outage. The cause of the outage has not been identified.
According to Deutsche Press Agency and other outlets, the state-run rail operator Deutsche Bahn (DB) said in the afternoon that nationwide train service had been halted due to a wireless communications failure. In a statement, DB said all trains were currently waiting at stations because of a nationwide malfunction in GSM-R, the digital system used for internal communications on the rail network. It added, "Service will not resume until the disruption is resolved."
The German daily Tagesspiegel also reported that the S-Bahn, Berlin's commuter rail network, had suspended all lines.
DB said, "Our technicians are working around the clock to fix the problem." The company did not specify how long repairs would take or how many trains were affected. It also did not comment on the exact cause of the communications outage.
