[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to attend the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States next month, and present the trophy to the winning team.
Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA and known for his close ties with Trump, appeared on Fox News on the 23rd local time and said he would "enjoy the final with Trump and hand the trophy to the winner." He added, "We are always together."
The World Cup final will be held on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Although 75% of the tournament's matches are being played in the United States, Trump has not appeared at any stadium since the event opened. At the opening match between the United States and Paraguay on the 12th, only U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended.
The World Cup trophy is usually placed on a podium first, then handed over as the winning players come up on stage and lift it. It would therefore be highly unusual for Trump, who is not a player, to present the trophy at the ceremony and remain on the podium.
Trump previously watched the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey last July. When the winning Paris Saint-Germain Football Club (PSG) players stepped onto the podium, he also went up and personally handed them the trophy.
