[Financial News] The number of victims in the TVING personal data breach has been found to be 19.53 million.
According to data submitted on the 22nd by Lee Jung-heon of the Democratic Party of Korea to the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) and the Ministry of Science and ICT, the number of people affected by the TVING data breach has reached 19.53 million so far. That is more than 6.5 million higher than the government's initial estimate of 13 million.
The leaked information is believed to include user IDs, names, dates of birth, passwords, refund account numbers, connected information (CI), and duplicate registration confirmation information (DI).
The government is reportedly investigating why the number of victims far exceeds TVING's roughly 5 million paid subscribers and 8.82 million monthly active users (MAU) as of May. It is also checking whether information from former members, dormant accounts, and accounts created through affiliate services was leaked.
The incident is the fourth-largest personal data breach in South Korea, after Coupang, Cyworld and Nate, and SK Telecom.
