[Financial News] Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, who has been hospitalized due to fatigue from the aftereffects of a hunger strike and his response to a shortage of ballots, is expected to return to party affairs later this week. Jang was admitted to the hospital on the 18th and is now on his fifth day there. He reportedly said he would "return this week no matter what" when asked about discharge.
Park Jun-tae, chief of staff to the People Power Party leader, told reporters at the National Assembly Communication Center on the 22nd that Jang wanted to resume party duties as soon as possible. However, after consulting with medical staff that day, he was unable to be discharged because doctors judged that he should continue treatment for now.
Park said Jang was "basically in a significantly weakened physical state." He added that his condition was similar to, or slightly worse than, the results of tests taken when he first visited the hospital right after the hunger strike ended. Medical staff also said that additional tests and treatment were needed.
Park, however, dismissed speculation that Jang was considering a personnel reshuffle involving the policy chief, the secretary-general, and deputy secretaries-general. He stressed, "The party leader has never instructed the chief of staff to review a reshuffle of party posts," adding, "I can clearly say that no such review has even been carried out in practice."
