[Financial News] The Blue House said it would "seriously and humbly accept" a poll showing that negative views of President Lee Jae-myung's performance in office had overtaken positive ones.
A Blue House official said on the 22nd, "We see the recent shift in approval ratings as a result that reflects both the public's perception of the economic situation in daily life and an overall assessment of state affairs."
The official added, "The Blue House will take this seriously and humbly, and will pay closer attention to what the public is worried about and hoping for."
As President Lee's approval rating has recently been on a downward trend, the Blue House said it would respond humbly after a poll showed negative evaluations surpassing positive ones for the first time since his inauguration.
Earlier, Realmeter, commissioned by Energy Economy Newspaper, surveyed 2,517 voters aged 18 and older nationwide from the 15th to the 19th. The result showed that positive evaluations of President Lee's performance fell 4.8 percentage points from the previous week to 46.7%. This is the first time since his inauguration that his approval rating in a Realmeter poll has dropped into the 40% range.
Negative evaluations rose 5.5 percentage points from the previous week to 49.7%, surpassing positive ratings within the margin of error (±2.0 percentage points at the 95% confidence level). The share of respondents who said they did not know was 3.6%.
The survey was conducted using an automated response system (ARS) with randomly generated mobile phone numbers. The response rate for the presidential performance survey was 4.2%, and the margin of error was ±2 percentage points at the 95% confidence level. More details are available on the website of the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission.
