[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung appointed former Yonhap News Agency President Sung Ki-hong as the new senior secretary for public relations at the Blue House. He also named new civil affairs and social affairs secretaries, along with new deputy directors for the Office of National Security.
President Lee carried out a reshuffle on the 21st, appointing new senior secretaries for public relations, civil affairs and social affairs at the Blue House, as well as the first and third deputy directors of the Office of National Security, Chief Presidential Secretary Kang Hoon-sik said at a briefing at the Chunchugwan Press Center at the Blue House.
Kang described the newly appointed Sung as "a veteran journalist with 30 years of experience who has both a keen sense of the newsroom and the balance and judgment of a top editor," adding, "We expect him to carefully reflect the voices of the public and to fully support public communication so that people can easily feel the government's achievements."
Han Chan-sik, a former prosecutor and now a lawyer at Kim & Chang, was appointed senior presidential secretary for civil affairs, while Kim Kyung-ja, a former senior vice chair of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) and a visiting professor at Woosuk University, was named senior secretary for social affairs.
Kang Geon-jak, a member of the Presidential Committee on Future Defense Strategy, was named first deputy director of the Office of National Security, while Song Ki-ho, the current senior secretary for economic security, was appointed third deputy director.
When asked about the scale of the personnel changes, Kang said, "Since the AI secretary position is vacant, there are effectively four. And because all positions in the Office of National Security are considered senior secretary-level posts at the Blue House, that brings the total to six, or nearly half of the entire lineup." He added, "It is fair to say this was a moderate-to-large reshuffle among the Blue House senior secretaries. It also reflects our determination to push for further reform and not be complacent in holding ourselves to account."
