[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea hailed the KOSPI’s break above 9,000, saying that the "era of Korea premium has begun" and highlighting the economic achievements of the Lee Jae Myung administration.
At a Supreme Council meeting on the 19th, Democratic Party leader Jung Chung-rae said, "In just one year since the Lee Jae Myung administration took office, we have written a new chapter in Korea’s capital market." He added that the result reflected "the government’s strong determination to normalize the stock market and our companies’ relentless efforts to build market trust."
Jung went on to say that "even amid the crisis of war in the Middle East, the market was able to grow steadily thanks to President Lee Jae-myung’s crisis management skills." He also said that efforts by the National Assembly to strengthen capital market transparency, including revisions to the Commercial Act, had helped.
Lawmakers from the Democratic Party of Korea also issued messages welcoming the milestone. On the previous day, lawmaker Jeon Hyeon-hee said on social networking service that it was "a valuable result created by the Lee Jae Myung administration’s national-interest-centered pragmatic diplomacy and its policies to foster future high-tech industries." She added that she would "do her utmost to prepare legislation and policies for the realization of Korea premium." Lawmaker Han Jun-ho also said on social networking service that he would "carefully follow up so that this achievement leads to better jobs, greater opportunities, and changes that people can actually feel."
Still, some voices within the Democratic Party of Korea say the focus should be on strengthening industrial competitiveness rather than on the index’s rise itself. Lawmaker Oh Ki-hyung, who chairs the party’s Special Committee on the K-Capital Market for Korea Premium, said on social networking service that "the KOSPI level itself is not the goal of policy." He stressed that industrial strategy and structural reform are important for the growth of innovative companies beyond semiconductors and for securing global competitiveness.
