[Financial News] The formation of a special committee for a National Assembly investigation into the ballot shortage that surfaced in the June 3 local elections and by-elections for lawmakers was completed on the 17th. Yoon Sang-hyun of the People Power Party will chair the provisional committee, titled the Special Committee for the Fact-Finding Investigation into the Violation of Citizens' Voting Rights, Including the Ballot Shortage Incident, and for Electoral Administration Reform.
The ruling and opposition parties finalized the list of committee members that day. Yoon Gun-young of the Democratic Party of Korea and Seo Beom-soo of the People Power Party will serve as floor coordinators for their respective sides.
The Democratic Party of Korea will send nine members: Yoon Gun-young, Lee Hae-sik, Kim Young-bae, Jeon Yong-gi, Kim Sung-hoe, Kim Yong-man, Yang Bu-nam, Lee Ki-heon, and Kim Nam-hee.
The People Power Party will field seven members: Yoon Sang-hyun, Seo Beom-soo, Kim Eun-hye, Shin Dong-wook, Park Soo-min, Joo Jin-woo, and Choi Bo-yoon.
Under the non-negotiating bloc quota, Jeong Chun-saeng of the Rebuilding Korea Party and Lee Jun-seok of the Reform Party will join the committee.
If the National Assembly adopts the investigation plan at the plenary session on the 18th, the committee will be able to operate for up to 45 days. The term may be extended if necessary.
The investigation will focus on the National Election Commission (NEC) and local election commissions at all levels. Potential witnesses for the National Assembly investigation include MOIS Minister Yun Ho-jung, other government officials, and local government officials in areas where the ballot shortage occurred.
