[Financial News] The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7), including the United States, issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to North Korea's complete denuclearization.
They made the remarks in a G7 leaders' statement released on the 17th local time on geopolitical issues in three regions: Ukraine, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific.
They said, "We emphasize the importance of a free and open Indo-Pacific based on the rule of law," and added, "We reaffirm our opposition to any unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force or coercion in the East China Sea, the South China Sea, and the Taiwan Strait. These issues must be resolved peacefully through dialogue alone."
They also said, "We express deep concern over North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, and reaffirm our commitment to North Korea's complete denuclearization in accordance with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions."
In addition, they urged North Korea to immediately resolve the abduction issue, saying, "We also reiterate the need to respond jointly to North Korea's cryptocurrency theft and cybercrime."
