According to fire authorities and Seoul Metro on the 16th, carbon dioxide leaked at around 9:41 a.m. from a substation on the basement level of Anam station on Seoul Subway Line 6 while an outside contractor was conducting a fire safety inspection.
The leak prompted passengers to evacuate and caused temporary disruption, with trains in both directions skipping the station for a time. No casualties were reported.
Train service is now operating normally.
A fire official explained, "We believe carbon dioxide gas leaked while equipment was being inspected."
