[The Financial News] KOSPI has extended its gains for a fourth straight trading day. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are both moving higher, helping drive the index upward. As of 9:34 a.m. on the 16th, KOSPI was trading at 8,706.52, up 160.54 points, or 1.88%, from the previous session.
The index opened at 8,698.55, up 150.57 points, or 1.76%, from the previous day. During the session, it rose as much as 201.50 points, or 2.36%, to 8,748.48.
KOSPI trading above 8,700 intraday marks the first time in eight trading days, since the 4th.
In the KOSPI Market, foreign investors are net buyers of 263.2 billion won. Retail investors are also net buyers, with 15.5 billion won. Institutional investors, meanwhile, are net sellers of 296.1 billion won.
Among the largest companies by market capitalization, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (SEC) was trading at 339,500 won, up 0.74% from the previous session. SK hynix was trading at 2,368,000 won, up 3.50%.
By sector, construction led the gains at 8.83%, followed by metals at 6.19% and medical and precision instruments at 5.46%. Telecommunications fell 1.65%, while paper and wood declined 1.26%.
The KOSDAQ Index was trading at 1,033.83, down 0.20 points, or 0.02%, from the previous session.
