[Financial News, Vatican City State = Reporter Choi Jong-geun]President Lee Jae-myung, who is on a European tour, said on the 15th local time, "I welcome the agreement reached on Middle East-related negotiations," adding that "this is an important breakthrough toward resolving a crisis the international community has long hoped to see addressed."
He wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that he "highly values President Donald Trump's leadership in bringing this agreement to fruition, as well as the diplomatic efforts of the parties to the negotiations and the countries involved."
Lee said, "I hope this agreement will quickly restore peace and stability in the Middle East and lay the groundwork for the safety and prosperity of people in the region. I also hope global energy supplies and demand will stabilize, and that all vessels, including our ships and sailors who have faced restrictions on passage through the Strait of Hormuz, will be able to safely resume operations as soon as possible."
He added, "The rising tensions in the Middle East have driven up energy prices and logistics costs, placing a significant burden on domestic prices, corporate management, and daily life. It may be difficult to feel the change in the short term, but I hope uncertainty in our economy will gradually ease and create an opportunity for recovery. As a responsible member of the international community, South Korea will spare no support or cooperation so that this agreement can contribute to world peace and prosperity beyond the Middle East."
Lee also said, "Going forward, we will continue to work closely with the United States and the international community to ensure that free and safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz is continuously guaranteed, and we will carry out our necessary role."
