[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump declared on the 14th local time that he had reached a settlement on a previous memorandum of understanding with Iran, calling it a "great deal." Iran described the agreement as a "great victory."
Trump wrote on Truth Social on the 14th that "this great deal will bring peace and security to the entire region." He added that "many presidents tried to make peace with Iran, but all failed," and said that "regional leaders have finally found a president who will help achieve real peace for the first time."
Trump emphasized that "the Strait of Hormuz will be opened on the 19th, at the same time the agreement is signed, for mine-clearing purposes, and oil will flow through the strait for the Middle East and the world."
About 30 minutes before writing that post, he said in another Truth Social post that "negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are now complete. Congratulations to everyone!" He added, "I have approved the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the immediate lifting of the U.S. Navy's maritime blockade around Iran," and said, "All ships of the world, turn on your engines, and let the oil flow!"
On the 15th, Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's deputy foreign minister, also said through Tasnim News Agency that Iran had agreed with the U.S. on a previous memorandum of understanding. He explained that additional negotiations for a real end to the conflict would continue for 60 days after the memorandum is signed on the 19th. He added that Iran would take its own measures if there were any "violations by the other side."
Gharibabadi also claimed that "the enemy, which attacked to achieve evil goals, was defeated on all fronts, and Iran achieved a great victory in this war."
Meanwhile, Fars News Agency reported on the 15th that Iran will manage vessel traffic in the Strait of Hormuz in cooperation with Oman.
