[Financial News] Jeon Han-gil, a former Korean history instructor turned YouTuber who has been calling for a nationwide rerun election after the shortage of ballots in local elections, has urged celebrities such as Yoo Jae-suk, BTS and IU to join his campaign. Jeon also repeated his claim that Oh Se-hoon’s victory in the Seoul Metropolitan City mayoral race was the result of election fraud, arguing again that a rerun is necessary.
Jeon made the remarks at a report event on alleged election fraud held on the 10th near the SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium in Olympic Park in Seoul’s Songpa District. The event took place around the site of a protest that had blocked a vote-counting center.
Standing on a truck used as a stage, Jeon argued, "If Oh Se-hoon was elected Seoul Metropolitan City Mayor through election fraud, then a rerun election should naturally be held."
Jeon said, "Many people dismissed anyone who even mentioned election fraud as a conspiracy theorist, a far-right extremist or some kind of mentally ill person, but lies cannot defeat the truth." He added, "This system, in which statistics are manipulated, computers are manipulated and early voting is manipulated, must now come to an end."
He also mentioned several widely known entertainers during his speech. "I ask famous singers like IU, world stars like BTS, and top figures like Yoo Jae-suk to join us," he said. "Why were you able to gain popularity and make money? Wasn't it because of the public's love? Didn't you always say that?"
He then urged celebrities to join the call for a rerun election, saying, "Shouldn't you now speak up for the people?"
Since the ballot shortage incident, Jeon has held rallies in front of the National Election Commission (NEC) in Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, and continued making the same claims at the Jamsil 2nd Polling Station in Jamsil 7-dong, Songpa District, Seoul. More recently, he has remained at the site of the protest blocking the vote-counting center and continued his activities there.
In a YouTube live broadcast on the 8th, Jeon also said, "Jamsil will become the 'second sacred site of the 4·19 Revolution,'" adding, "I will live here."
According to reports by Seoul Shinmun and other media outlets, Jeon was also seen on site holding a placard with claims of election fraud and encouraging participants. Some attendees carried items such as umbrellas printed with both the Flag of South Korea and the Stars and Stripes.
