[Financial News] Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, who will visit Korea next week, is set to meet with executives from NAVER and Kakao.
According to Kakao on the 11th, Altman is scheduled to meet with CEO Chung on the 15th at Kakao Pangyo Agit in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.
The meeting is intended to discuss additional areas of cooperation between the two companies. The two sides are expected to focus on ways to strengthen the connection between KakaoTalk, Kakao's core business, and ChatGPT.
Altman previously visited Korea in February last year and announced a surprise partnership with Kakao. Kakao later launched "ChatGPT for Kakao" in October last year as a result of the collaboration. A Kakao official said, "Specific discussion points will be shared at a later date."
On the same day, Altman will also visit NAVER 1784 in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, where he will meet with CEO Soo Yeon Choi and other executives. Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, who also visited Korea earlier, stopped by NAVER 1784 on the 8th and unveiled plans for infrastructure cooperation, including AI Factory.
Meanwhile, Altman is also expected to meet Samsung Electronics employees at Samsung Digital City in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, where he will give a lecture on the development of generative AI technology, industry changes, and future business strategies.
Samsung previously declared an "AI Transformation," pledging to fully introduce AI into all work across its affiliates to innovate the way it works and its organizational culture. Accordingly, the DX Division will officially adopt external generative AI services such as ChatGPT for employees starting on the 12th.
In particular, OpenAI's ChatGPT has been selected as the generative AI tool most preferred by Samsung employees and is expected to be made available to all staff.
This will be Altman's first visit to Korea in about eight months, since last October. His trip is drawing attention as to whether the "Stargate" partnership he formed with Samsung and SK Group at the time will be further developed.
