[Financial News] Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, appeared on tvN's variety show "You Quiz on the Block," drawing major attention, and the program recorded its highest ratings of the year.
According to Newsis News Agency and Nielsen Korea on the 11th, episode 346 of "You Quiz on the Block," which aired the previous day, posted an average nationwide household rating of 5.7 percent and a peak of 8.3 percent, marking the highest viewership for any broadcast this year. In the Seoul metropolitan area, it averaged 5.9 percent and peaked at 8.5 percent, ranking No. 1 in its time slot across all channels, including terrestrial broadcasters.
That was 1.4 percentage points higher than the 4.3 percent rating for the episode featuring Microsoft co-founder and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation chair Bill Gates, who appeared on the show last year.
This was the first time Huang had appeared on a Korean or overseas variety show, and news of his appearance drew attention even before the broadcast.
During the episode, Huang discussed his ties with leaders of major Korean companies, his own upbringing, and his views on the era of AI.
When asked which of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun, and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won he was closest to, Huang replied, "That's too easy. I want everyone to succeed."
He added, "All three are incredible global leaders," and said, "Those companies are very fortunate to have them as leaders."
He also said, "When I am in South Korea, I want my partners to succeed," adding, "I want SK to succeed, and I want Samsung, LG, Hyundai Motor, and NAVER to succeed."
He went on to say, "They know that I sincerely want them to succeed," and added, "I do my very best to help them succeed."
Huang also spoke about his connection with the late Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee.
He said he first visited South Korea in 1996 after receiving a letter from Lee.
When Yoo Jae-suk said that Huang had reportedly sold products at Yongsan Electronics Market after receiving Lee's letter, and that one shop owner still had Huang's business card, Huang responded in surprise, saying, "I don't even have that business card."
Huang also noted the close ties between South Korea and NVIDIA, saying, "South Korea's technology industry began with the internet, and NVIDIA grew during the same period. Our lives and histories are very close."
He added, "South Korea has always been close to my heart," and said, "Without South Korea's great gamers, it would have been difficult for NVIDIA's technology to become a global phenomenon."
Huang also expressed gratitude, saying, "I thank South Korea for warmly welcoming me and our company," and added, "The love you have shown for our company and for us was deeply moving."
