[Financial News] "We will discuss legislation on the Digital Asset Act, which has not been easy to agree on so far, once the new National Policy Committee is formed in the second half of the year."
Kang Jun-hyeon, a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker who currently serves as secretary of the National Policy Committee, made the remarks in a congratulatory speech at 'Tokenomy Korea 2026' on the 11th. The event was co-hosted by Financial News and the Digital Asset eXchange Alliance (DAXA) and sponsored by the Blockchain Law Society of Korea.
Kang said, "Over the past two years, we have worked hard to improve the system for virtual assets and digital assets, but I feel sorry that we have not achieved the results we hoped for." He added, "There are also many issues, especially regarding equity structures, and there are many differences of opinion among academia, the government, and the legal community."
He continued, "Even so, market demand is strong, and I agree that the Republic of Korea must keep pace while the global market is in flux." He added, "As the secretary of the National Policy Committee, my position is that we should at least get started if the General Act on Digital Assets can ensure a minimum level of safety, and later revisions can also be considered."
Kang emphasized, "The parts that have not been easy to agree on, I will make sure to resolve once the new National Policy Committee is formed in the second half of the year." He added, "If you offer good ideas here today, we will move faster, and I will definitely push for legislation within this year."
