[Financial News] Park Jie-won, a DPK lawmaker, said his party's approval rating has fallen behind the People Power Party and urged, "Jung Chung-rae and the rest of the leadership should resign en masse and, taking responsibility, declare that they will not run."
Appearing on MBC Radio's "Kwon Soon-pyo's News High Kick" on the 10th, Park cited a recent poll and said, "The People Power Party's approval rating is 1.8 percentage points higher than the Democratic Party's," adding that "the DPK leadership is staying silent even after seeing this situation."
He went on to say, "We were watching only President Lee Jae Myung, but even after seeing some polls showing approval dropping from nearly 70% and a dead cross, with negative ratings overtaking positive ones, they are saying nothing." He added, "This is not a fire across the river. It is as if a nuclear bomb has fallen on the DPK headquarters."
Park said, "We have come this far by rooting out insurrection, and President Lee has done a truly good job for a year, but we could still lose," and stressed, "We should use this as a chance to turn things around and go our own way. If we go down the path of conflict, we will be ruined."
With the party convention set for August and factional conflict intensifying inside the party, Park criticized the atmosphere and emphasized, "The race for party leadership will pass through this turbulence and move in a better direction." He added, "Even if a symbolic leadership feels wronged, and even if it believes it did nothing wrong, it has to step down if the public says so."
Earlier, a survey conducted by pollster Jo Won C&I for Straight News over three days from the 6th to the 8th among 2,000 men and women aged 18 and older nationwide showed the DPK at 40.4%, trailing the People Power Party at 41.6% by 1.2 points. Jo Won C&I said the gap between the two parties stood at 1.2 points, indicating a tight race within the margin of error of plus or minus 2.2 points.
