[Financial News] Major university student councils will issue a public statement on the 10th condemning the ballot shortage in the June 3 local elections and urging authorities to come up with countermeasures.
Student councils from 16 universities nationwide will release the statement at 6 p.m. on each campus on the anniversary of the June Democratic Uprising.
The participating universities include Yonsei University, Konkuk University, Korea University (KU), Kyung Hee University, Sogang University, Seoul National University (SNU), University of Seoul, Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), Soongsil University, Chonnam National University (CNU), Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), Hongik University, Sookmyung Women's University, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), Pusan National University (PNU), and Hanyang University (HYU).
In the statement, they plan to call for a fact-finding investigation and punishment of those responsible through a parliamentary inquiry and a special counsel, measures to remedy the violation of basic rights, structural reform of the National Election Commission (NEC), and the creation of a citizen-led watchdog body to oversee reform.
