[Financial News] Police raided the Seoul Regional Tax Office in connection with allegations that a man identified as No, a close associate of Geomjin Beopsa Jeon Seong-bae, acted as a tax broker.
The police Special Investigation Headquarters, which is investigating remaining cases handed over from the three special counsel teams, said in a notice to the press on the 9th that it had executed a search warrant at the Seoul Regional Tax Office from 10:30 a.m. to around 12:30 p.m. that day in connection with No's alleged violations of the Attorney-at-Law Act and other charges.
No is known as a figure who operated by touting his ties to former President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife. He is accused of receiving money and valuables in 2023 from a delivery service company that was under tax audit by the Seoul Regional Tax Office, in exchange for helping to suppress the investigation.
At the time, the tax authorities conducted an irregular audit of the company and later signaled that they would impose about 20 billion won in back taxes. However, after a pre-assessment review requested by the company, the levy was ultimately canceled.
Police reportedly sent investigators to the Seoul Regional Tax Office on the day to secure related documents and computer data.
Based on the materials obtained, S.I.H. plans to closely examine whether No made any requests or whether outside influence was exerted during the process that led to the cancellation of the tax levy.
