[Financial News] Jun Young-hyun, head of Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions Division and vice chairman, met with reporters on the 8th shortly after his meeting with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and said they discussed "HBM supply, foundry cooperation, and ways to jointly develop next-generation memory."
Jun met Huang one-on-one just before the Korea AI Ecosystem Reception at The Shilla Seoul in central Seoul that day. "We have worked with NVIDIA for a long time, and I think we had our best conversation today," he said. "We talked a lot in a comfortable atmosphere."
He explained that they discussed how to cooperate on HBM4 and foundry work in the short term, and broader collaboration, including joint development, in the medium to long term. Specifically, he added, "Starting this year, we will need to supply enough HBM4 and socam to NVIDIA, and from next year we also talked a lot about long-term cooperation, including supplying HBM4E and HBM5."
The two companies also plan to expand cooperation in foundry. Jun emphasized, "We are working together on autonomous driving chips and Grok chips needed for 4-nanometer and 8-nanometer processes, and we are also discussing cooperation for the next generation."
During his visit to Korea, however, Huang held three meetings with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won rather than with Samsung Electronics, reaffirming the two companies' AI memory partnership. Huang also said, "SK hynix will remain one of NVIDIA's largest memory partners going forward," adding, "We are calculating production capacity and roadmaps together with the entire AI ecosystem in mind." Industry observers said this suggests SK hynix is likely to maintain its position as NVIDIA's top HBM supplier in the next-generation HBM4 race as well.
In response, Jun said, "We will focus on doing our job well," and added, "We will show you the results later."
