[The Financial News] Police have booked four construction officials as suspects in connection with the Seosomun Overpass collapse.
At a regular press briefing held at the National Police Agency in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, on the 8th, Sung-joo Park, head of the National Office of Investigation, said, "We have questioned 18 construction officials so far and booked four of them as suspects." He added, "As this is a matter of great public interest, we will move quickly and conduct the investigation in accordance with the rules."
Police are examining not only the situation at the time of the accident but also the overall circumstances that led to it. Park said the case is still in its early stages, so investigators are keeping all possibilities open.
Police are also continuing their investigation into the explosion at Hanwha Aerospace's Daejeon Plant.
Park said, "On the 4th, we executed search and seizure warrants for three locations, including the Daejeon Plant, and one person has been booked as a suspect so far." He added, "The head of the investigation division at the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency is serving as the task force leader, and the investigation is moving forward quickly."
Police also said they would swiftly investigate, in accordance with procedure, the controversy surrounding Starbucks Korea's "Tank Day."
Park emphasized, "A total of three complaints have been filed with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency, and all of them are being consolidated and investigated by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Public Crime Investigation Unit." He added, "We will proceed quickly and in accordance with the procedures."
