[Financial News] NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has even boosted convenience store snack sales. As the "HBM Chips" he gave to citizens on the first day of his visit to Korea drew attention, sales of related products surged sharply.
JoongAng Ilbo reported on the 7th that sales of the "Seven Select Honey Banana Flavor HBM Chip" on the 6th jumped 766% from the same day a week earlier.
The HBM Chips drew major attention after Huang, who had dinner with leaders of Korea's information and communications technology industry, including Chey Tae-won, Koo Kwang-mo, and Lee Hae-jin, at a meat restaurant near Hongdae in Mapo District, Seoul, on the 5th, personally handed them out to citizens.
The HBM Chips Huang gave out at the time were reportedly prepared by SK. HBM stands for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), a product that is essential for NVIDIA's artificial intelligence chips and is led globally by SK hynix.
On the 5th, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang also tasted the HBM Chips himself while handing them out to citizens during the so-called "samso" gathering — a barbecue-and-soju dinner — with Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, Koo Kwang-mo, chairman of LG Group, and Lee Hae-jin, chairman of Naver, at a meat restaurant near Hongdae in Mapo District, Seoul. /Photo=Yonhap News Agency

The snack's name also became a topic of conversation as a parody of the chips. The product, launched in November last year, reportedly surpassed cumulative sales of 400,000 units by April this year.

A 7-Eleven official told JoongAng Ilbo, "HBM Chips are not a year-round product but a seasonal limited-edition item," adding, "We are currently selling existing inventory, but if store owners request more, we may consider additional production."
The so-called "Jensen Huang effect" is spreading to other products as well. Sales of Banana Flavored Milk and Paldo Sikhye, which Huang handed out to citizens along with the HBM Chips, also rose 12% and 13%, respectively, over the same period.
