President Donald Trump said on the 5th local time that international oil prices would fall once the Strait of Hormuz issue is resolved. He also claimed that a lot of tankers are currently passing through the strait.
According to Fox News and Al Jazeera Media Network, Trump told reporters that he would not say how many ships had passed through, but stressed that "there are many."
Trump added that it would not take long to resolve the Strait of Hormuz issue and said it would be settled "one way or another." He claimed that once the problem is solved, oil prices will fall, and that they may even drop to a level lower than before the war.
His upbeat outlook stands in sharp contrast to experts' concerns that even if the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is lifted, uncertainty will remain, oil and natural gas supplies may not return to prewar levels, and high oil prices could persist for some time.
He said people had thought the situation would be much worse than it is now. "Oil is at $96 a barrel now, but people expected $300 a barrel," he claimed.
Trump also emphasized that the United States has "many alternatives" in the energy sector, saying the country has abundant oil and natural gas, as well as coal and energy resources from Venezuela.
"We have more oil, gas, coal, and everything else than any other country," he said.
Trump also said talks with Iran are a "huge success," without revealing any details.
He stressed that "they cannot have nuclear weapons" and that they are "not in a position to have nuclear weapons."
