[Financial News] The KOSPI fell more than 6% in early trading on Monday, slipping below the 8,100 level. The KOSDAQ, which had recently been rebounding, is also tumbling, with the 1,000-point mark broken for the first time in three months.

KOSPI drops more than 6% in early trading on U.S. semiconductor shock
\r\nAs of 10:02 a.m. on the 5th, the KOSPI was down 584.29 points, or 6.76%, from the previous session at 8,055.12. The index opened 3.66% lower, and this was the first time it had fallen below the 8,100 level in five trading days, since the 28th of last month.
As the index fell sharply, a sell-side circuit breaker was triggered at around 9:08 a.m. It was the first such trigger in about three weeks, since the 18th of last month, and the 10th this year.
At the time the circuit breaker was triggered, the KOSPI 200 Futures index stood at 1,309.56, down 5.20% from the previous trading day. A KOSPI sell-side circuit breaker is activated when the KOSPI 200 Futures price remains down more than 5% from the previous day for one minute.
The decline appears to have been driven by a sharp selloff in semiconductor stocks on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) overnight after Broadcom Inc. reported earnings that fell short of market expectations. As a result, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and SK hynix, which have recently led the market's gains, are both plunging, adding downward pressure on the index.

\r\nSK hynix shares fell to as low as 2,077,000 won in morning trading, marking a drop of more than 9%.

Tensions in the Middle East are also rising again... KOSPI breaks below 1,000 points for the first time in three months
\r\nRising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have also put a sudden brake on the KOSPI's upward momentum. Against this backdrop, the domestic market is expected to see a stock-picking phase centered on related names following NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's visit to South Korea.
The KOSDAQ also broke below the 1,000-point level for the first time in three months. At the same time, the KOSDAQ was down 54.34 points, or 5.18%, from the previous session at 996.39. It was the first time the index had fallen below 1,000 since March 4, when it stood at 976.54.
The index opened 1.38% lower and then widened its losses as foreign investors and institutions continued to sell. About 51 minutes after the market opened, it slipped below the 1,000-point mark.
