[Financial News]  As more than one in four households now owns a pet, luxury brands are rolling out pet-specific products priced from millions to tens of millions of won, stepping up efforts to capture the 'pet luxury' market.
According to the '2025 Korea Pet Report' released last year by the KB Financial Group Management Research Institute, South Korea had 5.91 million pet-owning households and 15.46 million pet owners as of the end of 2024. That accounted for 29.9% of the total population.
At the same time, the idea of treating pets as family members is spreading quickly. In the survey, 87.2% of pet-owning households said they agreed with the statement, "Pets are part of the family."
As the pet-related consumer market becomes more premium, luxury brands are expanding their pet product lines and moving faster to win over the market.
French luxury brand Louis Vuitton offers pet carpets, clothing, leashes, carriers, trunks and other pet-specific products.
Inspired by Louis Vuitton's signature Speedy bag, the 'Speedy Pet Trunk' is currently sold for 32.6 million won on the brand's official website, while the 'Dog Bed Trunk' is priced at 21.5 million won.
The 'Waterproof Dog Coat MM,' designed to protect dogs from cold and rain, costs 2.11 million won, while the 'Harness MM' for walks is priced at 1.72 million won.
The 'Dog Bowl,' a pet dish, costs 3.52 million won, and the 'Travel Dog Carpet,' which can be used as a nap blanket or bed, is sold for 1.26 million won.
Italian luxury brand Gucci is also offering leashes and pet collars.
The 'Large Pet Leash' is currently sold for 720,000 won on Gucci's official website, while the 'Large and Extra-Large Pet Collar' is priced at 590,000 won.
Many other luxury brands are also operating pet-specific lines as they seek to attract pet owners.
After seeing the news, internet users reacted with comments such as, "A dog's life is the best life," "Sorry we can't buy that for our dog," and "The dog is the boss."
