\r\n[Financial News] President Donald Trump of the United States said the peace negotiations with Iran have entered the final stage and raised the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as early as this weekend. Although there had been speculation that the recent Iranian attack on Kuwait could weaken momentum for the talks, Trump did not describe it as a breakdown in the ceasefire. Instead, he characterized it as a "counterattack" and signaled his intention to keep negotiations going.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on the 3rd local time, Trump said, "I hear the negotiations themselves are going very well," adding, "It may not happen, but if it does, it could be done over the weekend."
Commenting on Iran's attack on Kuwait, he said, "There is a reason for everything," and added, "The United States had already dealt a significant blow, and they responded in kind." The remarks were seen as a sign that he views the recent military clash not as a reason to abandon the ceasefire, but as a temporary tension that arose during the negotiation process.
In particular, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz, a key variable in the Middle East energy market, would be opened immediately after the peace MOU is signed. The strait is a strategic chokepoint through which a large share of the world's crude oil shipments pass, and if it is reopened, it is expected to help stabilize global oil prices.
On the issue of Iran's Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU), one of the biggest sticking points in the talks, he said, "We will secure it." The United States has long demanded full control over Iran's uranium enrichment program in order to block any possibility of nuclear weapons development.
