[Financial News] In the 9th nationwide local elections, whose main voting took place on the 3rd, Jeong Won-oh of the DPK was found to be leading Oh Se-hoon of the People Power Party in the Seoul mayoral race, the biggest battleground, with 51.4% in exit polls conducted by the three terrestrial broadcasters, KBS, MBC and SBS, compared with 46.0% for Oh.
Seoul has been seen as the biggest battleground in this election. If the final count matches the exit poll, Jeong would take back control of the Seoul Metropolitan Government administration after 10 years of Oh Se-hoon’s city leadership.
The main voting for this election was held from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 3rd, while early voting took place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 29th and 30th of last month.
The joint exit poll by the three terrestrial broadcasters was conducted at the request of the broadcasters by polling firms Hankook Research, Ipsos and Korea Research International. It surveyed 108,727 voters at 615 polling stations nationwide from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the day of the vote. The margin of error was plus or minus 1.7 to 4.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
In addition, the final forecast incorporated the results of an early voting period poll conducted over four days from the 30th of last month to the 2nd of this month among 11,357 voters aged 18 and older nationwide. The poll was conducted by telephone interviews, and the margin of error at a 95% confidence level ranged from plus or minus 3.1 percentage points to plus or minus 5.5 percentage points, depending on the city and province.
Meanwhile, JTBC's forecast poll showed Jeong at 53.5% and Oh at 42.9%, giving Jeong a lead of 10.6 percentage points.
