[Financial News] The film 'Colony' is showing strong box office momentum not only in South Korea but also across Asia.
'Colony' had already surpassed its break-even point after attracting 3 million viewers in just 10 days after release.
According to distributor Showbox on the 2nd, the film had drawn a cumulative 3,000,058 viewers as of 4:58 p.m. on the 30th of last month. It posted the highest opening score among films released in 2026, and after becoming the fastest film this year to reach 1 million and 2 million viewers, it also became the fastest to surpass 3 million.

It was pre-sold to 124 countries overseas and topped opening-day box offices in major Asian markets.

In Taiwan, it continued its run with cumulative revenue of about 115 million New Taiwan dollars as of the 31st of last month. The film has been well received as a large-scale disaster story that threatens all of humanity.
In the Philippines, it grossed about 68.5 million pesos in five days after opening on the 27th of last month, ranking second among all Korean films at the local box office, behind 'Train to Busan.'
In Singapore, where it opened on the same day, it had earned about 715,000 Singapore dollars as of the 31st of last month. It is now likely to enter the top three Korean films at the local box office, surpassing 'Exhuma.'
In Hong Kong, it earned about 1.4 million Hong Kong dollars on its opening day on the 28th of last month, setting the best opening box office record for a Korean film since 'Peninsula' in 2020. As of the 31st of last month, cumulative revenue stood at about 6.4 million Hong Kong dollars.
Distributors in Japan, South America and France, who previously achieved strong results with Yeon Sang-ho's films 'Train to Busan' and 'Peninsula,' expressed high expectations for 'Colony.'
In particular, 'Colony' opened in France on the 27th of last month and ranked second at the box office, raising hopes for a strong run in Europe as well.
BF Distribution, the South American distributor, said, "Given the popularity of Yeon Sang-ho's previous works and the growing preference for Korean content in South America, we have strong confidence in its theatrical box office potential."
Arp Sas, the French distributor, said, "We are delighted to continue working with Yeon Sang-ho after successfully introducing 'Train to Busan' and 'Peninsula.'" It added, "'Colony' is inventive, original and visually striking, and above all, it is a very entertaining film."
