[Financial News] Jeju Island will provide travel subsidies to independent tourists in June.
On the 1st, Jeju Island and the Jeju Tourism Organization said they will launch a thank-you promotion for independent tourists visiting Jeju from the 4th to the 30th, including travel subsidies.
The promotion will target independent tourists who stay in Jeju for at least two nights and sign up for the digital tourism pass, NOWDA. Independent tourists aged 14 and older who stay between two and four nights will receive local currency worth 20,000 won, while those staying five nights or more will receive local currency worth 50,000 won.
The program was designed to ease the financial burden on travelers as overall travel costs, including fuel surcharges and rental car fees, have recently risen due to high oil prices and inflation.
The first phase will run from the 4th to the 14th at the Jeju Running Week Promotion Booth, located opposite Gate 3 on the first floor of Jeju International Airport. A second phase is scheduled to continue from the 15th at the JTO Duty Free Shop.
Tourists who wish to participate must bring an ID card and an airline ticket or ferry reservation confirmation that proves a stay of at least two nights. They must also present accommodation booking details or a rental car reservation confirmation on site to complete the process. However, recipients of other incentive programs, such as the Jeju Tourism Association's group-tour incentive support project, are excluded.
The promotion will end early once the allocated budget is exhausted. The province has secured a budget of 800 million won.
In addition, the province and the organization will run the "Delicious Jeju Travel Event" from the 4th to the 14th for tourists who dine at two or more restaurants designated as Good Price Businesses, Baeknyeon Stores, or Gome Spoon establishments. Those who verify their receipts will receive Jeju souvenirs on a first-come, first-served basis for the first 100 visitors at the Jeju International Airport booth.
A Jeju Tourism Organization official said, "This promotion was designed to help ease the increased travel burden on independent tourists caused by high oil prices," adding, "More details can be found in the notices section on the Jeju Tourism Organization website."
