[Financial News] The estimated value of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong's stock holdings has surpassed 60 trillion won.
According to Yonhap News Agency on the 2nd, Lee's personal stock assets have grown to a level comparable to LG Electronics, which ranks 15th in market capitalization among all listed companies in South Korea.
Corporate analysis firm Korea CXO Research Institute said the estimated value of Lee's shares in seven stocks, including Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T Corporation, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung SDS, Samsung E&A, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, and Samsung Electronics preferred shares, reached 61.5837 trillion won.
In this regard, Lee's stock valuation first rose into the 30 trillion won range on Jan. 21, at 30.2523 trillion won. It then crossed the 40 trillion won mark on Feb. 26, at 40.5986 trillion won, and the 50 trillion won mark on May 11, at 51.6593 trillion won.
Compared with June 4 last year, when the Lee Jae-myung administration took office, at 14.2852 trillion won, the figure has surged 331.1% in about a year, Korea CXO Research Institute added.
The sharp increase was driven largely by the rise in Samsung Electronics' share price.
The value of the 97,414,196 Samsung Electronics shares Lee owns stood at 33.9975 trillion won as of the day, up 503.8% over the past year.
Lee's total stock assets were found to exceed Hanwha Aerospace, which ranks 16th in KOSPI market capitalization at 58.6791 trillion won, and come close to LG Electronics, which ranks 15th at 61.9776 trillion won.
As of the same day, the combined stock assets of four members of the Samsung controlling family — Lee Jae-yong, Hong Ra-hee, honorary chair of the Leeum Museum of Art, Lee Boo-jin, president of Hotel Shilla, and Lee Seo-hyun, president of Samsung C&T Corporation — were estimated at 133.3275 trillion won.
By individual, honorary chair Hong held the most at 25.4707 trillion won, followed by Lee Boo-jin with 24.0845 trillion won and Lee Seo-hyun with 22.1886 trillion won.
