[Financial News] With two days left before the June 3 local elections, the People Power Party urged voters to cast their ballots to check the Lee Jae-myung administration and the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK). It also apologized for its past failures.
Song Eon-seok, floor leader of the People Power Party and co-chair of the party's central election committee, held a press briefing at the National Assembly on the 1st and said, "I sincerely ask you to warn the DPK's runaway behavior through your vote."
\r\nSong said, "I know very well that many of you see the People Power Party as falling short. We are sorry, and we reflect on that." He added, "But we must protect South Korea, which is standing in the wind. We need at least some restraint on arrogant power."
He went on to claim, "If no warning is issued now, the Lee Jae-myung administration will push ahead with a Special Counsel for Prosecutorial Dismissal, and Jung Chung-rae's DPK will monopolize the Standing Committee of the National Assembly and continue its parliamentary dictatorship. The Supreme Court of Korea could also be completely taken over by the administration the moment Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae's term ends in June next year." He added, "If you do not rein it in now, we may face two more years of reckless and frenzied overreach."
He continued, "Shouldn't you press the control button at least once on a ruling bloc that has lost control of its overflowing power and become intoxicated with it?" He appealed, "Please use your precious vote to build a country where good people succeed and bad people are punished, where diligent people are respected and those who commit wrongdoing pay the price."
Jeong Jeom-sik, the Policy Committee Chairperson and another co-chair of the election committee, said, "The battlegrounds across the country are in an extremely tight race that is draining the blood out of us." He predicted, "The outcome of this election is likely to be decided by a razor-thin margin of 1 to 2 percentage points."
He added, "Please give the People Power Party at least enough strength to check the runaway behavior and arrogance of the Lee Jae-myung administration and the DPK." He emphasized, "The spirit of this election is to restrain arrogance and unilateral rule, revive the struggling livelihoods and economy, and restore checks and balances in South Korea."
He also said, "The result will be decided by which side turns out more voters on election day." He added, "If the DPK loses, the Lee Jae-myung administration and the DPK will realize that the public is not to be taken lightly, stop their legislative rampage to shield themselves, and focus on reviving the struggling livelihoods and economy."
