[Financial News] Jeong Won-oh's camp, the DPK candidate for Seoul Metropolitan City Mayor, said on the 31st that Jeong is firmly maintaining his lead over People Power Party candidate Oh Se-hoon.
Lee In-young, a DPK lawmaker and the standing chair of Jeong's campaign committee, held a press briefing at the National Assembly that day and said, "We believe the momentum toward victory is becoming more solid." He added, "The early voting turnout in Seoul stands at 24.84%. Compared with the 2022 local elections, that is up by 2.64 percentage points, or nearly 3 points. The fact that turnout is rising in line with our projected path to victory, and that no other unusual signs have been detected, leads us to conclude that Jeong's lead is being firmly maintained."
Lee also said, "The 24.84% early voting turnout appears to reflect Seoul residents' desire for a safe city, and it is showing up in early voting. It also reflects a strong wish for safety on the subway I ride and the overpasses I pass under, and it can be seen as a clear verdict on Oh Se-hoon's insensitivity to safety."
Lee Hae-sik, the head of Jeong's campaign committee, also backed the view that Jeong is ahead. He said, "The early voting turnout is in the 24% range, the highest ever recorded." He added, "Public interest in this Seoul mayoral election is another reason behind the higher early voting rate. The recent rebar omission incident at the Samseong station section of GTX-A and the Seosomun Overpass disaster have also heightened public concern over the safety of people's lives, which I believe is contributing to the rise in early voting."
He added, "Voters will confirm through the results that they are judging Oh's 10 years of incompetence as mayor and rejecting an administration that has been indifferent to safety. This will be an election in which citizens choose Jeong Won-oh, a mayor who gets things done and values the safety and lives of Seoul residents, to lead the city."
