\r【Financial News, Gangneung = Kim Ki-seop】 Woo Sang-ho, the DPK candidate for governor of Gangwon State, visited Gangneung, Yangyang County, and Sokcho one after another on the 30th, the final weekend of the official campaign period, and poured his efforts into winning over East Coast voters.
Woo held a concentrated rally in front of Gangneung Station with Kim Jung-nam, the candidate for mayor of Gangneung, lawmakers Kim Woo-young and Baek Seung-ah, and actor Woo Hyun. The key issue was the plan to attract the Gangneung AI Data Center. Woo stressed that it was a massive project he had worked hard to bring in since his days as Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs, calling it the largest private investment in Gangwon State's history.
He also directly pushed back against Kim Jin-tae's claim during the TV debate on the 28th, when Kim questioned whether the project had any substance, saying the company name could not even be disclosed. Woo said, "The company asked for the name to be kept confidential until after the election, so we have not been able to reveal it, but investment talks are already well underway." He added, "Politics that shakes up the largest investment attraction in Gangwon State's history without evidence cannot lead Gangneung's development," strongly criticizing the attack.
At the event, lawmaker Kim Woo-young directly explained the background behind Woo's appointment as Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs at the presidential office. Kim said, "At the time, the president asked that I convey his intention to Woo Sang-ho, who was preparing to run for governor of Gangwon State, asking him to take on the role of senior secretary, and I delivered that message in person." He added, "The president said, 'You can carry out national tasks together and then move on to become governor,'" drawing a lively reaction from the crowd.
After finishing his morning schedule, Woo moved to the intersection in front of Yangyang County Office in the afternoon and continued campaigning with Kim Jeong-jung, the candidate for county governor of Yangyang. Woo said, "I will develop Yangyang, which has some of Gangwon State's most important tourism assets, including the East Sea, Seoraksan, and Naksansa Temple, into a world-class stay-type tourism city." He added, "Once the Gangneung AI Data Center gets underway, the entire East Coast will grow together." Kim Jeong-jung pledged to work with Woo, saying, "I will help Yangyang be reevaluated through real change, not embarrassing change."
In Sokcho, he held back-to-back rallies at the intersection in front of the former election commission office and at Ssangdari Intersection. Woo said, "Gangwon State's early voting rate is ranked No. 1 nationwide, excluding Honam, which is a clear mandate from residents to change Gangwon." He added, "Recent polls show Kim Cheol-su continuing to lead, so Woo Sang-ho and Kim Cheol-su will work as a team to make sure Sokcho changes for the better."
Kim Cheol-su, the candidate for mayor of Sokcho, said, "If Woo Sang-ho strongly supports us, we can show citizens a Sokcho that is different from today within four years."
Woo is continuing his schedule in Sokcho on the 31st as he focuses on winning over public sentiment along the East Coast.
