[Financial News] On the first day of early voting, the 29th, police searched the Seoul Metropolitan Government Infrastructure Headquarters under Seoul Metropolitan City and the construction company over the collapse of the Soseomun Overpass. Oh Se-hoon, the incumbent Seoul Metropolitan City Mayor and People Power Party candidate, called it election interference.
At a press conference at his campaign office that day, Oh said of the raid, "It is blatant election interference backed by power and a clear election plot using investigative authorities." He added, "Go ahead and search even the trash bins at Seoul City Hall. You may raid Seoul Metropolitan City, but you cannot seize voters' minds."
He criticized the move, saying, "At a time when the priority should be handling the accident and preparing countermeasures, they launched an overreaching forced investigation." He added, "As the election has become a razor-thin race, they are trying to block the public's eyes and ears, even if it means wielding the knife held by the president."
Oh's campaign committee cited allegations that Jeong Won-oh, the DPK candidate, distorted opinion polls, and argued, "Once the election is over and the camp is dissolved, the likelihood of evidence being destroyed is high. By contrast, the chance of evidence destruction by Seoul City Hall officials is effectively zero." It added, "The place police should raid is Jeong Won-oh's camp. More than a month has passed since the complaint was filed, so why has the investigation still not begun?"
