KOSPI Hits Record High of 8,476; LG Electronics and Samsung Electro-Mechanics Also Reach All-Time Peaks [Market Close]

\r\n[Financial News] KOSPI set another all-time closing high on the 29th. Expectations of an end to the war between the United States and Iran pushed the three major New York indexes to record highs overnight, while news that Samsung Electronics had shipped HBM4E samples also fueled strength in semiconductors. LG Electronics hit the daily upper limit on expectations surrounding NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's visit to Korea, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics broke above 2 million won for the first time, lifting the broader market on hopes of gains from AI cooperation.
According to Korea Exchange (KRX), KOSPI closed at 8,476.15, up 290.86 points, or 3.55%, from the previous session. The index opened at 8,384.31, up 199.02 points, or 2.43%, and widened its gains through the day.
Institutions were the main buyers. They posted a net purchase of 2.3687 trillion won in the main board market, while individual investors and foreign investors sold a net 1.4043 trillion won and 1.0421 trillion won, respectively.
Among the large-cap stocks, Samsung Electronics closed at 317,000 won, up 5.84% from the previous session, resetting the post-split closing high of 307,000 won set on the 27th just two days later. At one point during trading, it rose to 319,000 won, up 6.51%. Preferred shares of Samsung Electronics also finished with gains in the 6% range. Combined market capitalization of Samsung Electronics and its preferred shares surpassed 2,000 trillion won for the first time at the close.
SK hynix also closed up 1.92% at 2,333,000 won. During the session, it climbed to 2,379,000 won, setting a new intraday record.
LG Electronics closed at the daily upper limit of 293,000 won, up 29.93%, on expectations that Jensen Huang would visit Korea and discuss Physical AI cooperation with LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo. Affiliates including LG Innotek, LG CNS, and LG Group also surged, rising 28.57%, 29.91%, and 26.60%, respectively. Huang is expected to discuss AI cooperation with major IT companies such as Naver during the visit, and Naver also rose 14.15% to close at 234,000 won.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics jumped 15.04% to close at 2,127,000 won on earnings expectations, breaking above 2 million won for the first time. It has now risen for seven consecutive trading days. At the close, its market capitalization stood at 158.8735 trillion won, overtaking Hyundai Motor Company to rank fourth in KOSPI market cap. During the session, it even moved up to third place, surpassing SK Square.
KOSDAQ closed at 1,074.80, down 29.56 points, or 2.68%, from the previous session. Related investment firms such as T.S.Investment Corporation, which rose 29.96%, and DSC Investment, which gained 9.39%, surged on news that the National Growth Fund had approved a direct 370 billion won investment in Furiosa AI. Still, the overall index could not escape the pull toward large-cap KOSPI stocks.
