Jensen Huang's Visit and Semiconductor Tailwinds Push KOSPI to Intraday Record High [Fn Afternoon Market Report]

\r\n[Financial News] The KOSPI hit a new all-time intraday high on the 29th, lifted by news that NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang will visit South Korea and by strength in semiconductors. Samsung Electro-Mechanics surged past 2.1 million won and rose to fourth place by market capitalization, while large-cap stocks broadly showed strength. In contrast, the KOSDAQ opened higher in early trading but soon turned lower, widening losses to around 3%.
As of 2:20 p.m. on the 29th, the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) was up 3.30% from the previous session at 8,455.59. The index opened 2.43% higher at 8,384.31 and at one point climbed to 8,458.25, up 3.33%, setting a new intraday record.
By investor type, institutions led the rally with net purchases of 287.41 billion won. Foreign investors and individual investors, meanwhile, were net sellers of 193.75 billion won and 97.74 billion won, respectively. Foreign investors have maintained net selling for 16 consecutive trading days through today.
Among the largest stocks by market cap, Samsung Electro-Mechanics jumped about 15% to 2,115,000 won, moving up to fourth place in market value. Expectations for growth in its substrate business helped drive the stock higher. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix were also up 5% and 1%, respectively, while Hyundai Motor Company rose about 6%.
Stocks related to physical AI also rallied. Reports that CEO Jensen Huang will visit South Korea early next month to discuss cooperation in physical AI and cloud services sent LG Electronics (27.94%), LG Innotek (25.40%), and Naver (14.63%) sharply higher.
By sector, IT services (13.31%), insurance (5.04%), and telecommunications (4.66%) were strong, while medical and precision equipment (-3.78%), paper and wood (-3.19%), and real estate (-3.00%) moved lower.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ was down 2.80% from the previous session at 1,073.47, moving in contrast to the KOSPI.
